Grades kindergarten through Fifth or Sixth grade usually make up your child’s elementary school years also known as primary school. Most people view Kindergarten as a time where all kids do is color and nap, but there is a lot more being learned than people notice. These children learning how to socialize, discipline and many other values that are imperative to a child’s development both educationally and personally. The following years of schooling teach the foundation of the rest of your child’s educational experiences. These are the years a child learns to solve math problems, read and analyze material, write basic paragraphs, etc. The great teachers of America need be present at this stage in your child’s education, because these years are responsible for a child reaching their full mental development.
These years are even more crucial to your child’s learning than any other school years. Therefore, it would be best to keep the following things in mind when enrolling your child in elementary school. Of course if you choose to enroll your child in private or a religious school there are other things to check for in addition to the reminders below, but the following applies to all elementary schools, public or private.
• Check the schools testing results compared to other schools in the area.
• Check the teacher student ratio in the classroom setting to determine whether the class size is suitable for your child.
• Check with neighbors to get their opinions about the school, as well as any of their commendable or horror situations with the school.
• Check the curriculum the school follows, as well as if they use updated textbooks.
• What is the schools policy and plan to keep the parents involved in the child’s learning and progress.
